Phoenix Food Friday: Vincent Market Bistro

Vincent Market Bistro

Garrett and I love, love, LOVE Vincent Market Bistro. We discovered this quaint little place after attending the Camelback Farmers Market, which is held in the Vincent parking lot. There are two sides to the restaurant: Vincent's, the upscale dining room and Vincent Market Bistro, the informal, less-expensive, cute bistro. Both parts of the restaurant share the same kitchen, same chef, and same cook line.

Vincent's carries mostly French fare. On the Market Bistro menu, you'll find a Three Cheese Tartine, Coq au Vin, Crispy Duck Confit, and Boeuf Bourguignon among other options. The menu is small--about 4-5 starters, 8 or so entrées, and a handful of desserts--but everything is perfectly delicious. I've had almost everything (even the duck!) and ate every last bite. Entrée prices range from about $10-$16.

On top of a beautiful menu and fantastic atmosphere, the staff is always wonderful. They're all friendly, make good recommendations, and move quickly. Chef Vincent himself has also made an appearance once or twice while we were there and slipped us an extra dessert.

Put this on your "must eat" list for Phoenix!

Phoenix Food Friday: Daily Dose

Daily Dose, Midtown and Scottsdale Locations
Midtown: 1928 E Highland Ave Ste F-107 Phoenix, AZ 85016
Old Town: 4020 N Scottsdale Rd #101 Scottsdale, AZ 85251

The Daily Dose burger with sweet potato fries--a weekly craving

The Scottsdale location is better only because it's in the heart of Old Town with a lot of great things within walking distance. That being said, its prime loc often guarantees a hefty waiting time. We live closer to the Midtown Daily Dose, so that's the one we've been going to. Food, service, and prices are the same across the board. For breakfast, I recommend the breakfast nachos, ANY of the omelets, the banana bread French toast, and the chorizo wrap. They're really great about mixing and matching, and making almost any menu item into a side (which I usually do with the banana bread French toast...oink oink). For lunch, I usually order a burger and sweet potato fries. Burgers, appetizers, and select meals are offered on the discounted Happy Hour menu, which starts at 4pm and goes all night long in the summer. Daily Dose is one of the few restaurants that pulls off a great breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

Phoenix Food Friday: Carmel's Coffee & Bakery

Carmel's Coffee & Bakery

Carmel's ordering countertop. (I have to admit, I didn't take this picture. Thanks, internet!)

Cute. Small. Friendly. Light.

Carmel's is located in a quaint 1940s house right off of Camelback. It's filled with vintage prints, chalkboard menus, and retro mismatching furniture. Even if their food and drink offerings were sub-par, which they aren't, I'd come in here for the ambiance alone.

We're so happy that Carmel's is on our morning commute and have the opportunity to stop in frequently. The owner is almost always there and recognizes his regulars, which we love. I'm a big fan of their Iced Toddy's and lattes--I prefer their drink menu to their food menu. Still, it's not rare that I pick up a scone or muffin if I'm in a rush, and they are pretty good (I just think my homemade ones are better), or sit down for a full breakfast to soak in the fun atmosphere.

Make this a coffee stop if you're in town!

Phoenix Food Friday: La Grande Orange

La Grande Orange Grocery & Pizzeria
 4410 N 40th St  Phoenix, AZ 85018
(602)840-7777

LGO's Famous French Pancakes

If you're not awake when you enter LGO, you may or may not get trampled. This place is bu-sy. And hip. And trendy. And bustling.

There are two parts to La Grande Orange, the grocery and the pizzeria. The grocery is home to a selection of great wines, cute home décor, and unique gifts alongside pastries, coffee, and the breakfast/lunch menu. For breakfast I recommend the Croque Madame or the Famous French Pancakes. Attached but in a separate room is the pizzeria, and I DIE for the Gladiator Pizza (sausage and pepperoni). All of the pizzas have great thin, crispy, and chewy crust.

I give you...the Gladiator Pizza

LGO is a fun place to visit, whether you're stopping in for a meal (they have ready-to-takeout meals too--we love the Chopped Turkey Salad!) or picking up a gift. Go, go!
